Quick answer: which ECHO should you choose?
Shortlist the SRM-2620T when dense grass is a repeated part of the work and you want the higher-reduction gearbox. Compare the standard SRM-2620 for regularly maintained grass, especially if its price and local support are better. Neither recommendation is based on a timed cutting test; this comparison uses ECHO's published specifications and the mechanical tradeoffs they imply.
SRM-2620 vs SRM-2620T specification table
The figures below describe the US models. Dry weight includes no fuel. The head-included row is the useful starting point when both machines are supplied as complete trimmers.
| Specification | SRM-2620 | SRM-2620T |
|---|---|---|
| Engine displacement | 25.4 cc | 25.4 cc |
| Gear ratio | 1.62:1 | Marketed as 2:1; manual specifies 2.07:1 |
| Cutting head | Speed-Feed 400 | Speed-Feed 400 |
| Nominal swath | 17 inches | 17 inches |
| Dry weight with head, without harness | 12.6 lb | 12.8 lb |
| Dry weight without head, with shield | 11.7 lb | 11.9 lb |
| Fuel tank | 20.6 US fl. oz. | 20.6 US fl. oz. |
| Listed line | .095-inch Black Diamond | .095-inch Black Diamond |
What does the T mean in practice?
For these models, the T identifies the high-torque version. The larger reduction ratio increases torque multiplication and reduces head speed at a given engine speed. It does not turn a 25.4 cc engine into a 30 cc engine. Cutting time also depends on the head, line, growth and technique, so a ratio alone cannot prove which machine finishes a particular yard first.
The weight difference is small when the measurements match
With the heads fitted, the listed difference is 0.2 lb. Comparing 12.8 lb for the T with 11.7 lb for the standard model creates an exaggerated difference because the latter excludes its head. Add fuel and any harness to either dry figure before thinking about carried weight. If weight is your main concern, handle a complete machine rather than choosing from two differently defined numbers.
Choose around the work you do most often
Write down what takes the most time on a typical job. Repeated dense-grass passes make torque gearing worth considering. On maintained lawns with many obstacles, the practical questions may be control, head access, service support and purchase cost instead. One occasional rough corner is not necessarily a reason to carry a bigger or more expensive tool on every routine job.
- Frequent dense grass: compare the 2620T first.
- Maintained lawns and obstacle-heavy work: compare both complete offers and their handling.
- Regular larger open runs: also assess the 3020T, accepting its extra weight.
- Fuel or exhaust restrictions: compare an appropriate battery system and charging plan.
Check the full model code before buying on Amazon
Search results can include the standard 2620, the 2620T, replacement heads and service parts together. Check the offer's model field and included equipment rather than trusting a search thumbnail. A cheaper replacement part is not a cheaper complete trimmer. Confirm the seller, delivery cost, returns and warranty terms before comparing the final price.
When the SRM-3020T belongs on the shortlist
The 3020T is a different decision: ECHO lists a 30.5 cc engine, a 20-inch swath and a Speed-Feed 500 head. Its head-included dry weight is 13.9 lb. Consider that step when demanding grass work is frequent enough to justify the larger setup, not merely because its model number is higher. The linked review explains the weight and workload tradeoffs.
Do both models use mixed fuel?
These are two-stroke gasoline tools. The linked 2620T manual specifies a 50:1 gasoline-to-oil ratio. Use the operator manual matching the exact model and serial range for fuel, line loading and maintenance; do not treat a buying comparison as an operating manual. Older production documents may use different weight figures, which is another reason to compare the current complete configuration.
